I had never seen this version of High Society, and was not quite sure what to expect and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The opening with the chorus moving through the auditorium was a nice touch and started the show well. The chorus have so much more to do in this show and they were a pleasure to watch.
Barbara Bennet as Tracy Lord and Patrick Callagham as Dexter complimented each other well in both singing and acting, as did Jane Lewis and David Evans (Margaret and Seth Lord) Rob Jenkins (George Kitteridge) and Stephen Hopkins (Mike Connor) and Evelin Sipos (Liz Imbie) although I am not sure if there was problem with sound the night I went, as I could not always understand what some principles were saying or singing.
Several scenes were, to my mind, stolen by the youngest and one of the more mature members, Emily Lloyd as Dinah a brilliant performance from a very talented young lady and Barrie Jackson as Uncle Willie an experienced and comedic veteran of the stage. Very well done to both of you
In my opinion, the costumes and movement were just right for the era as was the scenery which was simple, stylish and served its purpose well. Congratulations to wardrobe and Stephen Clark and crew.
This show was well directed/choreographed and a pleasure to watch, well done to all concerned and thanks to Dee for my very warm welcome.
