High Society the stage show, adapted from the extremely popular film in the mid fifties, does always struggle to compete following such stars as Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong who were involved in the film version. The show was well produced and choreographed by Frank Hammond with some very impressive performances. Amy Roche gave us a most powerful performance if perhaps a little 'o t t ' at times. Chris Sheard played the role of Dexter with a nice easy confidence as required and Richard Walshaw (Uncle Willie) kept the show bubbling along with humourous interludes. All the other roles were well cast and performed. The set was well designed and constructed and the excellent costumes and good sound system did much to enhance this production. I think the production would have benefitted from perhaps a little more sympathetic musical orchestration.
