The Penelopiad
Sinodun Players, The Corn Exchange, Wallingford
This musical is the stage version of a very well known film with iconic stars. The director chose to update and reset the story from East Coast America in the 1930s to a venue in the Isle of Wight in the 1980s which gave everyone concerned the opportunity to put their own characterisations in and avoid the danger of imitating the original artistes. Technically all was good, especially the lighting used to create a swimming pool, costumes and props. Musically all the cast sang and performed very well with several outstanding moments with the principals always in believable character.
