CUDOS nailed this production before a note was played or a word uttered.
Genius! Open stage with a reversed window of Spy Magazine revealing the Ensemble in a bustling office, their delivery of ‘How Do You Spell Ambassador’ set the bar for the rest of the company.
Director Ann Brolly skillfully brought CUDOS’s wild and wacky cast of well-to-do characters together as either love interests or comedy relief, who sing and dance – often at the same time!
Sarah Elliott showed what an all rounder she is playing Tracy Lord as she lead her suitors a merry dance! Ian Wickens as Dexter Haven was the all American crooner completely laid back who had the ladies swooning in the audience as he sang ‘I Love You Samantha.’ In complete contrast was Richard Walters as Mike Connor the non sophisticated paparazzi hack! Richard more than filled his shoes! Together these three were a formidable force. Supporting them was newcomer Chantelle Souttar as Liz Imbrie, beautiful singing voice.
Two of the highlights from this foursome were Liz and Mike’s’ Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ and Tracy, Dexter, Mike and Liz singing ‘Well Did You Evah.’
The success of this production owed as much to the technicians off stage as it did to the players on! The use of the Art Deco panels moved and lit in various ways were stunning and the choreographed scene changing using the ensemble meant every set change was executed seamlessly keeping the production moving.
Overall the production fizzed like champagne at a High Society wedding! Well done.
