This show was adapted from the Disney Film of High School Musical and it made an excellent vehicle for these talented youngsters of Halifax Light Opera Society Juniors.  The story Line is about two characters Troy Bolton the Captain of the Basketball team and Gabriella Montez, who originally met at a Karaoke evening at a winter skiiing resort on a school holiday.  Then Gabriella enrols at the same school and they audition for their forthcomming school production.

The Cheerleaders and the Basketball team burst on to the stage with great energy and confidence and their command of the stage was impressive especially in the ball routine, it was absolutely spot on.

Troy Bolton, (Matthew Armitage) and Gabriella Montez, (Scarlett Munz)  complimented each other, their nemeses Sharpay Evens, (Georgia Bloxham) and her camp gay twin brother Ryan Evans, (Jacob McParland) worked well together.  Sharpay relished her baddie role and both had a good sense of comedy plotting and counter plotting, singing and dancing.

Ms Darbus, (Aislinn Collins) who clearly lived and breathed theatre gave a good portrayal of her role along with Coach Bolton, (Frank Bradshaw) Chad Danforth, (Sam Rothery) and Taylor Mckessie, (Lauren Firth). There were some very inspiring character portrayals from other younger cast members.

This was a new venue for the Society and they adapted to it extremely well and although it was set in a high school it did not stop the Society including their new younger members.

The Society must be very proud of this superb set of young people with lots of enthusiasm and dedication.  Congratulations to the production team and all involved.
