With a backdrop at St Margaret’s Churchyard of magnolias, climbing ivy and creeper on the house at the back of the open stage and good weather made this a pleasant afternoon. Directed by John Crofts you need not worry that it is your first directorship, John you directed this difficult plot so that we could understand it and we did because of the tremendous actors, you chose to direct in this play, and they did you proud.
The play very deconstructed I believe, both in time and actors, cut back to 1 hour 45 mins, from a longer version. This didn’t notice at all, the actors coped very well with it, and I loved some of their accents. So, carry on Directing John. Your cast were dedicated to their parts, and we could hear all of them, sometimes difficult with outside performances. Your actors all turned in good performances and they were Barnaby Lockyer (Chorus and Captain Fluellen), Tarquin Taylor (Pistol, Constable of France), Ryan Hawkins (Nym Captain McNorris), Matthew Sullivan (King Henry V), Tessa Taylor (Archbishop of Canterbury and Queen of France), Karen Ince (French Ambassador Governor or Harfleur, The Knight), John Crofts (Bardolph), Anais Stien (The Dauphin, Princess Katherine, Boy ), and Patricia Erskine-Hill (Alice, Montjoy, French prisoner). All of you gave solid performances as we expect from the Canterbury Shakespeare Festival and your audience certainly got that at this performance.Thank you for a splendid afternoon.
