It is always a pleasure to attend Churchill School to watch the latest musical theatre offering from Winscombe Youth Theatre. The talent, the fun, the originality are always on view and ‘Hen House Horrors’ was no exception. This Youth Theatre School encourages children from a very early age until 16 years to develop their creativity, acquire skills and work as a team (thanks musical producer Teresa Hemming ... taken from the programme). It is therefore no mean feat to fit this wide variation in ages in to a musical production.
Hen House Horrors was written and directed by John Butler, with added popular well known songs, told a story of how a group of chickens restored an old rundown farm, over run by rats, to an orderly, trouble free and happy place. Any allusion to Weston Super Mare was purely intentional!
It was fun, energetic and engaging, with excellent scenery and lighting. The talented children had a great time as did the enthusiastic audience, at 11.30 in the morning.
Long may you prosper WTS, you give an excellent introduction to musical theatre to many children and this can only be beneficial to their education and to musical theatre itself.
