With a career spanning 5 decades, choosing Cameron Mackintosh Productions as the theme for a revue, certainly provided SVMCC with a widespread choice of Musical numbers. He is best known for producing some of the world's most successful and long-running musicals, including "Les Misérables," "The Phantom of the Opera," “Mary Poppins” and "Cats." These shows plus many more were included in this very enjoyable Revue. Revues are a great chance to give all members of the society, old, new, and returning to shine and was lovely to get the opportunity to see those I have not seen perform solos before.
The stage had a raised rostrum, centre back with steps either side of a small thrust, providing some levels, with a large square frame mirroring a Proscenium arch with Hollywood-style lights. The lighting design was effective throughout. Sound also worked well.
The Creative Team put together a great selection of numbers and began with an extract from “Phantom Of The Opera” and a full company rendition of Masquerade, which certainly set the very high standard for the performances. There was so much to enjoy within this well-balanced and thought-out programme. All the cast worked very well together demonstrating a strong team feel, and clearly enjoying every minute, with some lovely ensemble and small group numbers. It would be unfair to single out any particular performance out as the overall standard was so high, but I must say the “Touch Me” in Memory is still living rent free in my head, it blew me away!
Thank you all for a great afternoon’s entertainment and I’m very much looking forward to your next production of Addams Family.
