With the choice of another Eric Chappell script, WADS have stayed on familiar territory with Haywire, offering another well-rehearsed Comedy.  The action all takes place in the Alec Firth’s living room, in a flat above his bookshop.  Alec is masterminding an illicit holiday in Spain with his assistant Liz, but inevitably the plans do not go as smoothly as hoped.  Ian Dobson as Alec is a man on the edge, constantly trying to cover up his own cover stories.  As his deviousness dissolves around him, with the untimely arrival of his elderly mother, Phoebe, Alec's agitation becomes the audiences’ amusement.  Sally Jones as Phoebe made a successful transition from cameo performer, to principal player, and shone as the anarchic geriatric. There was strong support from Anne Dobson as the seemingly innocent wife, Ivan Hall and Laura Moralee as the hapless children and Katrina Stead as the longsuffering mistress.   Another successful production for the WADS - what a shame there was not more in the audience to enjoy it.
