Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and it is tempting to characterise military actions in the Great War in terms of heroes and villains. This production of Hamp took a sensitive approach in examining the motivations of soldiers tasked with dealing with the court martial of Hamp, a disarmingly honest but sadly not the brightest of soldiers subject to court martial for desertion. Strong performances by the main characters were supported by a talented company, skilfully directed on a simple but effective set in a moving production leading up to Remembrance Day.
