It was good to see the Company back at the Montgomery Theatre in Sheffield City Centre after a spell at the Dronfield Civic Theatre in the outskirts of Sheffield.
Adam Walker (Arthur Kipps) put his heart and soul into his performance and his hard work was certainly rewarded. He sang, danced and acted, even playing "the bango" with great confidence - how he has come on in the last 5 years. Congratulations to Rebecca Stowe (Ann Pornick) who has been with Woodseats for 4 years, but unfortunately is moving to York. I enjoyed her interpretation of "I know what I am" very much.
All the shop girls and boys (Ruby Midgely, Becky Southwell, Jessica Kawalek, Danielle Smith, Matt Carroll, Dan Powell and Ryan Gresham) played their parts with great aplomb, working well as individual characters and also as a team - all looking as though they were really enjoying themselves. What can I say about Ian Brady (Chitterlow) - an excellent performance (both singing and acting). As far as I was concerned he was a Props person - always providing the correct props which were in the right place at the right time and getting on with his job very quietly - not this year!!! The Walsingham Family was well cast - well done Marilyn Barker - Helen Walsingham in 1983, Mrs. Botting in 2001 (both for Croft House TC) and this year playing Mrs. Walsingham!
Well done to Mary on her first production at the Montgomery Theatre. Congratulations to Matthew and the musicians. Martha's choreography worked really well. The scenery was good - 16 scene changes on the Montgomery stage is not easy - well done Stage Manager and crew. Costumes looked really good and there were quite a few quick changes - not easy at the Montgomery due to the lack of "wing" space.
Keep up the good work and I am looking forrward to seeing "All Shook Up" (a new Musical Comedy and the hits are all Elvis) next year.
