I have to confess that Half a Sixpence is one of my favourite shows and I did really enjoy this production even though I do prefer the original version. The casting was good in all parts. Fraser Sugden (Kipps) gave a super performance with some fine acting and singing with great style. He was brilliantly supported by Victoria Wilkinson (Ann) who displayed a very fine voice and some lovely acting with great diction. Matthew Warren (Chitterlow) gave a very fine o.t.t. performance as the role demands finding every inch of comedy this part offers. Christine Shoesmith (Helen) was a most suitable choice for this part she brought great style and poise to the role that this part so requires. Nick Wade (Young Walsingham) played this role different to any way I have seen before giving much amusement to the audience. Helen Crawshaw ( Mrs, Walsingham) gave a very impressive performance as a very aristocratic upper class mother. Andrew Crawshaw (Shalford) the shop owner played the role with just the right amount of aggression expected of an Edwardian one to be. The shop boys and girls contributed much to this production as did the rest of the cast. The use of the Kids in this show was a first for me but they were well organised and well trained. The excellent choreography did much to enhance this production as did the scenic cloths and small orchestra with good costumes.
