What a treat to see BOS doing what it does best - putting on a cracking show with talented principals and some fine ensemble work. In this case the whimsical and very watchable Half-a-Sixpence. Janet Bishop directed with flair and her theatrical experience certainly shone through in this production. The characterisations were excellent with each member of the cast developing their own persona. The pace was snappy and the action never faltered for a moment. The smooth and unobtrusive scene changes all worked extremely well. Many congratulations on a thrilling and thoroughly entertaining piece of musical theatre. Musical Director Chris Cheetham had ensured the ensemble and principals were well drilled in their knowledge of the songs and I noticed that diction and harmonies were particularly good in this production. There was also a good balance between the vocals and the band which I have often observed elsewhere is not always the case. Congratulations! The imaginative choreography by Sammy Briggs kept the proceedings rattling along at a rate of knots. There was some clever movement and steps pitched just right so all the cast were able to participate. Kipps’s dance routines were splendid to watch. The whole production was excellent with some standout principal performances supported by some very committed and thoroughly watchable chorus set pieces. Well done to all concerned!
