This musical needs a lively start, and this production did just that, and it kept its pace throughout. This Society has quite a number of young adults and this suited them perfectly. Tracy Turnblad (Hollie Kempson) sang and danced her way through all the numbers and was perfectly suited to the role. Penny Pingleton (Sarah Purnell) never disappoints in the fun roles’ that she does so well. Corny Collins, (Luke Farley),this was a different type of role for him, but a great performance that showed his versatility. Link Larkin (Dan Follows) a lovely confident performance, one observation, male lipstick should be browner than the bright red he was wearing. Wilber (Dave Williams) and Edna ( Pete Routley) a lovely pairing, I have not seen Dave perform before and he was very good, Pete always a good “Dame” and their “You’re Timeless To Me” was a joy to watch.
Velma Von Tussle ( Kate Summers) another versatile actress who always gives a great performance, and this was no different.
All the musical numbers were performed and choreographed beautifully and the harmonies were lovely.
The Black chorus ( always difficult) was sympathetically done with slightly darker make up and wigs and I don’t think anyone could have found it offensive.
The set was good and changes were very efficient, in what I know is very limited space.
I have to say that this is one of the best things I have seen this society produce.
Well done to all you should be very proud.
