“Guys and Dolls” has always been a favourite of mine, the story line may now be a little date, but the music and songs are still wonderful.
This was a certainly a wonderful production that was very enjoyable throughout.
When I realised that I was sat four rows from the front, closer to the stage that I really like, I was initially worried that the band might blow me away, but I am happy to say, that for a change, the sound balance in the Lighthouse Theatre was faultless, the band was absolutely superb and I heard every word of song lyrics and the script
I thought that that the four leading roles Adelaide, Sarah, Sky Masterson and Nathen Detroit, were all outstanding and they were supported by and excellent team playing the minor roles. I am not sure if the director planned it, but I felt that it could have be Groucho Marx playing Nathan, a wonderful inspired performance.
It was noticeable that the company were somewhat short on Guys, but the most of the ladies chorus were dressed in male attire during the Second Act to successfully create the big chorus numbers. The choreography was very effective, the company sang well and sounded superb. The big impressive set looked fabulous and it changed without distraction.
I was unable to attend an evening performance so therefore I went to the matinee performance, on what was a beautiful sunny afternoon, when it seemed that everyone else was at the beach. However, there was still a very large audience, who I hope that like me, left the theatre feeling enthralled by this was absolutely wonderful, feel good show that had me singing all the way home
