The bravery of the Hornsea production team was evident when 72 youngsters from their "Kids" section appeared in this production of the popular musical Grease. The final result rewarded the challenge that they gave themselves and the whole evening was very enjoyable and received an enthusiastic reception from a capacity audience.
It really is difficult to single out anyone for special praise as everyone played their parts so well but the cast was led by very good performances from Max Joy as Danny and Hannah Lawson as Sandy. This was the first part that 15 year old Hannah has played and she showed some tremendous potential with her singing, movement and dialogue. Congratulations, I look forward to seeing her again.
However, these two performers did not over-shadow the other performers as all roles were completed very well. Olivia Thompson was very mature in the challenging part of Rizzo, George Coubrough (Kenickie) was excellent in Greased Lightning (with a great car!) and there were really good performances from Jake Baines (Rodger), Tilly Close (Jan) and Shauna Herfield-Barriskell (Patty).
If I have a highlight inform the show it was provided by Matthew Adams who gave a lovely rendition of Beauty School Dropout. His diction, one of my hobby horses, was superb and all youngsters, and not so youngsters, would have benefitted from hearing him. Really, really good and he also acted the song so well.
As ever the set, scenery (including quick scene changes) and costumes were very impressive and of a very high standard and it was good to know that a lot of more senior members of the society were involved in this entertaining production.
