Cleckheaton Youth Theatre is a newly formed youth group under the umbrella of Cleckheaton & Spenborough O. & D Society. They formed this junior section less than a year ago, performing their first concert in the springtime after just six weeks of rehearsal.
Now four months later with a cast of approximately fifty children between the ages of eight to sixteen, they have put on their first production with confidence and enthusiasm. Grease was the perfect choice for these youngsters to show off their talents.
From the moment the show commenced it held your attention throughout. Danny (Samuel Shingleton) bounced around the stage with his gang the "T" Birds, Kenicke, Roger, Doody and Sonny each and every one, of them complimenting the other, with both singing and dancing their high energy routines. Sandy (Laura Layden) sang beautifully, portraying her shy character well, as she tried hard to be accepted as part of the gang of girls the "Pink Ladies". The girls Rizzo, Marty.Jan and Frenchy all performed excellent solos. There was an outstanding contribution from Teen Angel (Jacob Backhouse) singing "Beauty School Dropout". Good backing with the class of '59 with a great hand jive.
Superb choreography with bags of vitality, and singing that reverberated around the hall, happy smiling faces throughout, but I think the boys won the honours this time!
Congratulations on a sparkling enjoyable show, well done Richard and Jessica.
