Grease became a hit musical in the early seventies and over the years it has developed a cult following. The evidence was clear at this production, as there quite a few of the audience dressed as Sandy lookalikes and it was impossible to count the number of Pink ladies.

This excellent production was certainly as good, if not better than, many of the professional touring shows that throughout the year visit this same theatre. I thought that there were excellent performances from all the lead characters, and they were supported by the well drilled and very enthusiastic company.

The pavilion theatre always seems to have sound issues so it was nice to note that for a change the sound system was free of gremlins and well balanced. My only criticism would be that some of the cast had a strong American drawl and sometimes the diction was poor, therefore, although I knew the storyline, there were times that I struggled to follow the libretto.

Bbloc certainly had a hit with this great production. It could have been a singalong version of “Grease”, because so many of the audience were singing along with the chorus numbers and the Mega Mix finale seem to have most of the audience on their feet joining in. The atmosphere was certainly buzzing with very favourable comments as everyone exited the theatre at the end of the fabulous evening.
