Avoiding the danger of potentially very cheap laughs, Erith Playhouse produced an affectionate but sensitively balanced story of Florence Foster Jenkins, likeable both because and in spite of her monumental self-delusions. While there was much comedy to enjoy, there was never a feeling that there was an element of cruelty involved in this extraordinary true tale.
