This five-hander presents such a vivid and accurate depiction of psychological and emotional manipulation, that therapists and counsellors starting using ‘gaslighting’ as a colloquial term for this type of behaviour. This contemporary context makes Patrick Hamilton’s 1938 Victorian melodrama a good choice for a modern audience.

LADS have the skills and intelligence to handle this piece well and with Director Christian Mortimer expertly finding that fine line between melodrama and melodramatic, they presented a well-crafted play.

Set in a charming Victorian living room, the action is dependent on a small cast taking large parts. This cast was more than up to this challenge with some fine performances form experienced actors.
