As always it was a pleasure to accept an invitation from Newport Pantomime Societies Youth Group, to see their latest show, Disney’s very popular “Frozen”. It was obvious that everyone involved in this production was extremely excited and had great hopes for the show, after putting in a great deal of very hard work both on and off the stage.
Giving life to such a very popular story and dealing with such audience expectation is a hard ask for any society but this young cast along with the guidance of their experienced production team gave their audience all the magic of Disney and more.
Some minor technical problems with the sound did not detract or deter the young Elsa [Martha Adams] and the young Anna [Lili Huish] from opening our story with lovely vocals and great characterisation. My congratulations to them both, they were perfect.
Congratulations to Grace Savigar as King Agnar and to a very brave Katie Whittaker, who stepped in to play Queen Iduna at the very last moment due to Hannah Jenkins being unwell. My greatest respect to you both on your ability to carry on with confidence and succeed in your performance. Very well done.
As the sisters take on their adult roles, we meet Anna played by Megan Norris, who captured the character beautifully. Megan clearly showed her vocal and acting skills throughout the performance and was an absolute pleasure to watch. Very well done
Elsa played by a very talented Ffion Bassett gave the audience everything they could have expected in the formation of this iconic character. Her actions, movements, facial expression and vocal excellence were superb. In every way, she was Elsa. I must note at this point that I am still totally baffled as to how the magical costume change took place. I just wanted to jump up and shout, “Bravo”.
A lovely duo combination in Kristoff [Ffion Norris] and Lola Fitzmaurice as Sven. Played with true characterisation. Olaf played by Jacob Davies was a joy. This funny little character was played to perfection and the initial Olaf model made by a member of the production team was inspirational. Such detail in the portrayal of all these characters must be commended for their entertainment value.
A very commendable Prince Hans played by Bethany Bassett gave us a lovely rendition of “love is an open Door” with Anna. A good performance and well-cast even with the change of gender role.
My congratulations to the excellent supporting character roles of Ayda Rawle-Jones as Pabbie, Seren Nash- Langley as Bulda, Zac Chape as Oaken and Niamh Britton as Weselton. Well done to you all.
A special thank you to the wonderful Snow chorus and main chorus characters. The show would not have been as special without the hard work you all put in and the effort you made.
My congratulations to the production team. Every show is special, but I think your efforts in this production went above and beyond. It looked amazing it sounded so good, the setting was superb. The audience loved every moment.
You must be very proud.
