On a hot evening I enjoyed my first visit to this society.
The direction of this show was only taken over only seven weeks ago by two people who also had substantial parts and they did a sterling job. The show was well cast and Tom Carron (Ren McCormack) and Tirion Maria Parsons (Ariel Moore) were great choices, they had good singing voices, suited to this type of music, and Tom was a great mover. The Reverend Moore and his wife (Ross McDonnell and Kathryn Elizabeth Burton) sang their solos with feeling and emotion and there was a lump in my throat when Kathryn sang one of her solos (I cannot give you the title as there was no song list in the programme) The portrayal of Willard the hillbilly friend of Ren (Will Jones) gave some really good comedy moments especially in the dance hall scene, All of the chorus played their parts well with singing and movement, but for me, “Holding Out For A Hero” was one of the high spots of the night.
The set was simple, just steps and a bridge, supplemented by a few bits of furniture and two screens which projected suitable images, a very innovative idea which was extremely effective. Well done to the set and props department.
Finally the band, they were totally suited to playing this type of music and they did it so well.
Thank you so much for inviting me, I hope to see you again.
