Aladdin
Banbury Cross Players, The Mill Arts Centre, Banbury
A powerful two hander in a tiny intimate space retelling the tragic story of Ruth Ellis hung in 1955 whose case gave fresh impetus to the movement to abolish capital punishment, which came to fruition in 1965. The story is seen from both her point of view and that of the hangman Albert Pierrepoint. The two characters only meeting for the execution. The only words he spoke to her being “follow me” hence the title.
