This was a very amusing play for the audience, having been written by Derek Benfield, one of the best writers of ‘farce’. In my opinion, this is one of his funniest efforts and Carolyn, the director certainly knew how to make the most of every situation. I have seldom laughed so much and could happily sit through the whole show again. What fun the cast must have had during rehearsals.
First on my list of outstanding performances was from Tim Ede playing twin brothers. He came on and off the stage having changed costume and personality every few minutes managing to remember which part he was filling. It was incredible and hilarious. Aimee Bullimore as their sister was equally fantastic with wonderful facial and body language. Her steady change throughout was unforgettable, her costume perfect and I loved her wig and hat.
It was great to see Pam Stringer back on stage especially in such a demanding part. She has always been a pleasure to watch and this was no exception. She was perfect in her role. Add to this Peter Woodman and John Stovold, both totally convincing in their very different but equally amusing parts and four scantily dressed young women, Zoe Green, Kara Burstow, Ali Stovold and Debs Ravera, available for hire by the hour in the house of a member of a religious order, and you have all the ingredience for a great ‘romp’.
The set was exceptionally well thought out with so many carefully prepared props, good door planning for ease of movement and excellent costumes. The final moments were definitely the ‘icing on the cake’ of this brilliant evening’s entertainment.
