Fiddler is a wonderful show and seems to bring out the best in amateur companies. Head of the house Tevye was played by Gary Crane. He related well to his family and to God. Golde was sensitively played by Alison Phillips, showing a loving mother and sometimes an exasperated wife.Emma Jones, Laura Walker and Stephanie-Jayne-Hills were Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava, developing different charecterisations, the younger sisters Shprintze and Bielke (Carys Wilson and Ruby Wilson) showed plenty of enthusiasim and confidence in their roles. Hodel sang beautifully "Far from the home I love" with great feeling. Motel (Christopher Tilbury) was as shy as Perchik (Aaron-pryce-Lewis) was confident. Meryl Sage as Yente was a suitably wily old bird, whilst Roger Leese brought a touch of comedy to his role as the unfortunate Lazar Wolf.
Other cast members gave good individual charecterisations to their roles and the chorous related well to each other as well as to the principals. The dream scene was original and worked well.
Scenery although quite basic worked well with good use of very effective lighting. Singing was of a very high standard and direction and choreography original. The orchestra under the baton of Ifor Phillips blended well together creating a good sound.
Congratulations to new director Owain Roach and his production team in bringing this wonderful, well known show to fruition.
