This was a most enjoyable production with outstanding performances from the two leading principals. Gary St.John was a most endearing Tevye finding all the lovely dry humour that this role has to offer, this combined with his beautiful voice was a treat for us all and he was lucky to play opposite such a fne Golde (Rachel Marshall) who was superb, never missing an opportunity to use the wonderful caustic humour vented against her hard working milkman husband. The three main daughters Tzeitel (Sarah Appleby) Hodel (Charlotte Spowage) and Chava (Aimee Good) all combined together along with the two younger ones Shprintze (Molly Alston) and Bielke (Millie Ducker) to give excellent performances - I did enjoy the Matchmaker number. The three suiters were all good with Michael Tattersal as Motel Kamzoil being especially impressive as was Christine Shoesmith as Yente, her strong characterisation as the old Jewish matchmaker was a fine performance. The lovely big open plan stage set with no huge house truck taking up centre stage was, I felt, a bonus and made for some great choreography and stage settings.
