This was an excellent choice for the society, a perfect company show that can accomodate a cast of all ages. I don't know when I last saw a show with seventeen men on stage, very impressive. The slick outstanding opening number 'Tradition' set the scene for the rest of the evening. Tevye (Michael Siegel) gave a consummate performance extracting both humour and pathos in equal measure, with great support from his wife of twenty five years, feisty Golde (Rachel Warlop), she was the perfect foil for him. Their duet 'Do You Love Me' was particularly touching. The daughters and their respective partners soon established their characters and worked hard in their contrasting roles. All the other principals produced good performances in keeping with their characters, the chorus too gave excellent support with the haunting melodies. As the community of Anatevka packed up and prepared to leave their homes for a new life, the sadness of the situation was felt by all. It was quite a long show but I am sure it will pick up pace after the first night. Congratulations to the whole company and Director Michael Kirby.
