This production of Evita by EMCO was first rate. What a brilliant show. The locally constructed set that worked so well and looked every inch the way it should, using all the back and sides of the stage and complete with the impressive balconies so needed for this production. The chorography was spell binding, very effective with everyone working together beautifully.

Jo Killoran made an exemplary Evita she looked like the original Eva Peron, complete with splendid costumes and wigs, Jo put everything into the role and” Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” was just magic, you could have heard a pin drop. Powerful and emotional. The gradual onset of Eva’s final illness was sensitively and subtly done.

Che played by Lance Vernon, who as always gave a good performance. His singing was a pleasure to listen to and held the show together well.

James Billington as Juan Peron gave a good account, looking statesmanlike and dignified with, again, a voice to match! Craig Butler as Augustin Magaldi came over with great style as the accomplished lounge singer, such a contrast to the revolutionary emotion of Che or the political ambition of Peron.

Peron’s Mistress (Frankie Parry) sang” Another Suitcase another Hall “with passion, it was superb.

The costumes were just right, along with good lighting, the chorus looked super, and sounded wonderful with great harmonies. The Orchestra sounded very good under the expert baton of Angela Blackwell.

This show, beginning and ending with the death of Eva, can be difficult to lift, but this Company achieved it. Debra Butler, you are to be congratulated!
