Evita

What a pleasure it has been, to join the audience at the wonderful Savoy Theatre
Monmouth, for the opening night of “Evita”, presented by the Monmouth Music Theatre.

This iconic tale of rags to riches and the rise of Eva Peron is a classic story, well known and
loved by the theatre going public. The audience would therefore have great expectations of
the principal characters, and in a production completely set to music with little or no
dialogue, the telling of the tale is no easy task. I must congratulate Paul Ellis [Director] on an
enlightened production style.

Cait Davies as Eva Peron gave a strong insight into this iconic character and the charismatic
influence she had, with her excellent musical ability, growing in strength throughout the
performance. A good portrayal of a difficult role; well done.

Corey Jones as Che. What more can be said than “WoW”. He completely captured the
essence of this role and thrilled the audience with his flawless musical narration and
mesmerising stage presence. A powerful performance from start to finish, worthy of any
professional stage.

Tom Rigby as Juan Peron gave us a very stately picture of the man totally captivated by Eva
Peron. Congratulations on his musical performance.

Adrian Bevan as Agustin Magaldi gave a strong performance with excellent characterisation.
Well done to Ellie Stevens as Peron’s Mistress. A lovely rendition of “Another Suitcase in
another Hall” beautifully accompanied by the Residents and Cleaners ensemble, Margaret
Wrightson, Diane Sillman, Dianne Webb, Emma Warmington and Lynn Hounsome. A very
poignant scene.

Well done to you all in bringing to life this iconic story.
