Based on the historical story of the Argentinian political leader Eva Peron, the second wife of the Argentinian President Juan Peron. Born Maria Eva Duarte, the story follows her early life from rags to riches, her rise to power, her charity work and her eventual death at the early age of 33. She aligned herself to the poor, winning both herself and her husband popularity to become a hero to the working classes and an enemy of the rich. Eva became the most powerful woman in Latin Amercia.
The musical score was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber with the lyrics by Tim Rice, this blockbuster musical was also made into a film in 1996 starring Maddona and Antonio Banderas.
The show commences with the announcement of Eva Peron's death and her funeral, then starts to tell her intense life story. Che, (Joe Medlock) acted as Narrator throughout the story giving a wonderful dramatic performance with an incredibloe delivery of his musical numbers. Sonya Morris as Eva Peron portrayed this very demanding, challenging role brilliantly, her singing, dancing and acting was outstanding. Juan Peron, (Adam Lacey) made a perfect match for Eva with excellent acting skills and vocal ability. Her former lover, singer Augustin Mageldi (Kristian Cleworth) delivered his song 'On This Night of a Thousand Stars' superbly. Amelia Hellawell, as Peron's Mistress performed this cameo convincingly.
The four children sang delightfully and the slick choreography of the dance routines, along with ensemble singing chorus all added to the overall picture. Beautiful costumes, good lighting, and an excellent Orchestra under the baton of Robert Durkin.
Obviously a huge amount of work went into to this production, congratulations to everyone both on and off stage.
