A middle aged couple trying to get back their love life, a company director trying it on with one of his employees, a young loud mouthed drunk, an avid bird watcher, a couple of girls game for anything, riotous boy scouts and their ineffective scoutmaster, a site owner with more rules and regulations than the EU, an outdoor mother with her indoor daughter! What more would one expect on a camp site?
This play was well conceived and put together by an enthusiastic and colourful cast. The set -- well one can only say that it was more like an actual camp site than the real thing. The set being dressed with pots of flowers and trees not to mention the filling of the stage with tents. The lighting complemented the whole scene and the costumes showed the great difference from those who were regular campers to the ones who had no idea and tried to present a fashion parade.
George Woodfine and Angie McKenna as the middle aged couple, George and Elaine, gave an excellent performance as the warring pair, her wanting to visit her sister as she had done for the last twenty-odd years and he, a rather downtrodden fellow who wants to get back to nature and recover his lost youth and love.
Scott and Simon (Jonathan Wardle and Luke Couch) arrive, put up their tent with ease as opposed to Mrs Vanne and her daughter Kampa (Lynn Tupling and Amber Kidd) who struggled for several minutes much to the amusement of the audience before the tent was erected. These four in their supporting roles added to the spice and confusion of the play.
Gordon Snodley (Lachlan Currie ) as the company director going camping with a member of his staff, Zoe Spriggs (Hannah Lloyd) certainly gave excellent portrayals as the pair out for a dirty week-end. This was added to by the arrival of Kara (Jane Worthington) and Amy (Jenny Lister), a couple of friends one who obviously wanted a quiet week-end and the other who was game for anything including seducing George!
In the midst of all this we have an officious site owner, Mrs Stubbs (Sheena Parker) , two scouts (Liam Tupling and Nathan Ayrton) intent on creating as much mayhem as possible and their long suffering scoutmaster (Matthew Hinch) who gave the impression of an extremely incompetent leader.
This play was very funny throughout and Sue Jackson, the Director is to be congratulated on achieving so much with this society
