It was a special treat to witness this fine production of 'Entertaining Angels'. Just five actors on stage who did a magnificent job, along with a first class set .Every detail of a Vicarage garden complete with potting shed and stream and very clever lighting.
The acting was superb. Tish Wells (Grace) is to be heartily congratulated. Rarely off stage, she gave a wonderful display of first class acting, skilfully delivering some very witty lines that gave her character that bit extra. The colour and shade in her expressions was a delight!
Sue Whitell (Ruth) gave her character a little bit of eccentricity that was cleverly understated. From mowing the lawn to telling her sister Grace that she had a one night stand with her husband, who just happened to be the vicar!!
David Clarke as Bardolph, the deceased Vicar looked every inch an elderly cleric. He had a wonderful speaking voice that gave his character that edge, wonderful.
Steph Letten as Jo, gave a great performance as the concerned and slightly irritated daughter, not only worrying about her mother, naturally upset at learning of her husband’s betrayal, but on coming to terms herself with the existence of a half-brother.
Debbie Trott as Sarah, gave a great portrayal of a modern, trendy C of E priest eventually revealing her own dark secrets to Jo. Simply super!
This was a very good script but you need the actors to match and we certainly had that in this production. It was so good, I could have seen it again, it was so well done! My congratulations to the Director Jeff Hutchinson and to all those concerned. A super play, well-staged and slickly performed. An evening to remember.
