Agatha Twisty and the Murder in Pantoland
Shinfield Players Theatre, SPT
For this autumn’s national Gothic celebration, Argosy chose the first successful theatrical version of the thriller from the late nineteen-twenties, giving it a full-hearted and full-throated production with plenty of atmosphere well emphasised by skilful lighting and sound effects. Roles were played “for real” without going over the top as we learned about the occult, fearing that every close encounter might end with a neck-bite, until crosses, mirrors and wolf’s-bane (the only unauthentic prop, thank goodness!) led to Dracula’s disintegration – a perfectly achieved effect.
