A study of rookie marines taking their final leave before being shipped out to the Vietnam War was an interesting choice for a musical which worked well especially in conveying the jingoistic attitudes of the time. Weaving in the backdrop of the assassination of Kennedy really helped focus the show on a specific moment it time. The changes in public attitude that the war and the strong social divisions it created were shown fully as the plot moved on. This was an excellent study of a pivotal moment in history.
I did feel the male members of the cast who were the members of the marine platoon waiting to be shipped, worked well as a chorus.
