Disney’s Peter Pan is based on the play by J.M. Barrie and is a shortened version, just right for Debut Youth Theatre's young cast. The story of the boy who didn’t want to grow up is a well loved story complete with adventure, Pirates, Mermaids, Fairies, Indians and a crocodile. This gives the juniors plenty to do. This version contains lots of the original Disney songs ‘You can fly’, ‘Yo ho, a Pirates life for me’, and ‘Following the leader’.
Director Wendy South has a lovely cast for this production, along with Musical Director Rachael Thorpe who has worked well on the singing. The Choreographers are Anita Pritchard & Emalene Hickman.
The opening set was simple and very effective with the open window and three wooden boxes made into beds, these then made a raised section as the scene changed.
The costumes are very good and just right for the characters; I loved Tinkerbelle’s glittery dress and wings, and make-up. Lucy Miller takes the role and is just right as Tink. Thomas Woodcock plays Peter Pan, his cheeky character is just right. Kerensa Pickering is lovely as Wendy, and her brothers are nicely played by Ben Pavitt as John and Darwin Brander as Michael.
Anthony Garlaschi was excellent as Captain Hook with just the right amount of nastiness, aided by Nat Smith as Smee who was very likeable.
All the other roles are played equally well and you could tell everyone was enjoying themselves as this came across. Well done everyone.
