Forty Six P5-S1 young people took to the stage and transported us with consummate ease to the magical kingdom of Arendelle and unfolded the story of the princesses of the land sisters Elsa and Anna. From the opening number “Let the Sun Shine On” to the closing finale, sung acapella due to a technical fault, the ensemble singing and movement was impeccable. Ellie Dunbar was outstanding as Elsa looking every inch the Queen in her sparkling ice-blue gown and her voice soaring in her rendition of “Let It Go”. She wrung every ounce of emotion out of the character as she struggled to control her magical power. She was equally matched by Ellis Angus as the younger more carefree sister Anna – the sense of adventure and joie de vivre of the character was almost palpable in her acting and in her solo rendition of “For The First Time In Forever”. Jaiden Whyte as the two-faced Prince Hans gave a very strong performance sung well in the duet “Love Is An Open Door” with Anna. Robyn Skene as the talking snowman Olaf was a delight and a firm favourite of the audience. Her rendition of “In Summer”, backed by a beachwear clad chorus, received warm applause. Leo Morrice as ice salesman Kristoff with his reindeer pal Sven, played by Ajay Morrice-Burgess, made a great pairing especially in their rendition of “Reindeers Are Better Than People”. Zack Whyte’s over-the-top salesman Oaken had the audience laughing out loud and his rendition of “Hygge” with his large family was a showstopper. Strong support was given by Lexi Rose Rocks and Madison Cooper (Young Elsa and Anna), Demi Gray and Amarah Forsyth (Middle Elsa and Anna), Emilia MacDearmid (Queen Iduna), Lucas Masson (King Angarr), Dylan Mitchell (Weselton), Aiden West and Orla Gilmore (Hidden Folk Pabbie and Bulda) and Ellie Cruikshank (Bishop). The set was simple but effective and good use was made of the central bridge. The use of a video wall to reflect the change of scenes and good lighting added greatly to the shows image. The costuming was very colourful and appropriate to the period and characters portrayed. This was my first visit to this group and I was very impressed by the high standard of the performances from principals and chorus alike and I look forward to having many more visits to “The Broch”.
