Moments from the Movies

This new group in District 3 delivered a celebration of songs from a variety of films in a show with two full acts. A cast of over 30 adults most of whom had not sung or danced in a show before, delivered on their commitment, outlined in the programme, to push their boundaries, shine and give their audience a memorable evening. The opening number from the Greatest Showman showcased their talent, energy and enthusiasm. The sound, costumes and lighting all combined to make an exciting opening to the evening. They went on to delight their audience in their understanding and interpretation of songs from the likes of Harry Potter, James Bond, comedic elements of Shrek and a well staged number or two from Grease to close the first Act. The choreography was slick and the performers made their moves seem natural. Everyone was keen to see what the second half of the evening would reveal and although some of the numbers were less well known, the power of singing, the interpretation and movement in Lady Marmalade, Power of Love, and You Don’t Own Me, did not disappoint. The characters and the movement of Mary Poppins stood out with its different mood and pace. Soloists all put themselves out there showing some fine voices and demonstrating that they could all shine. Out of their comfort zones, they made their stage an exciting new zone. Everyone knew what to do, was confident in movement, hit all the right notes and never missed a beat. 

Congratulations go to them all in this debut concert and to the directors and MD who took them forward. The performers delighted their audience, and, as could be seen on their faces, their greatest reward was in having achieved their aims.
