Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

This was the director's first time directing and she should be commended for bringing this show to the stage. It is not easy to direct and deliver a show with clarity especially when is not well known, but in the most part she achieved this so that the audience could follow the twists and turns of the story. It had been well cast and there were some very strong acting and vocal performances. The actors worked comfortably together with each understanding their roles and delivering their characterisations. Under Rachel’s direction, the cast brought out all the humour out in the very comedic Ruprecht scene, the romance between Muriel and André and the scene with Freddy and Dr Shuffhausen each of which were well directed and brought much hilarity.

The musical numbers in this show were quite varied, ranging from the hilarious “All About Ruprecht, the rousing “Nothing is Too Wonderful to be True” to the poignant parody song “Love is My Legs”. Amy had worked with the principals to deliver these with expression, character and musicality. The choreography was well devised with patterns of steps which worked effectively with the highlight a line dance to “Oklahoma” led brilliantly by Jolene and really lifted the energy and performance.
