Johann Strauss II's most famous operetta - the hedonistic extravaganza "Die Fledermaus" - was Harrow Opera's fine choice for their autumn production. This great team of talented operatic singers presented a most entertaining evening of delightful musical escapism. They played the larger-than-life characters involved in a wonderful mix of mistaken identities, practical jokes, smouldering revenge and unfettered debauchery so often found this period of "Viennese Operetta". However, here, the proceedings were updated to the 1980s. The rather farcical storyline is gorgeously ludicrous whether it is set in the 19th or 20th centuries. It really is just a vehicle for some wonderful music beautifully sung. A joyous evening was had by the audience as well as the cast!
