A trip to the Floral Hall, Hornsea, is a must for holiday visitors and locals alike and the reason is excellent entertainment provided by HATS in all their productions, including this summer Panto. The venue was pretty full for this traditional show, played weekly, which was enjoyed by an audience containing a good number of children.
One of the most outstanding features of the society’s shows is the quality of their costumes and this time was no exception – they were fabulous!
I was very impressed by Jake Baines who played young Tommy Twiddle. His timing was excellent and he moved and sang very well – the audience loved him. Other notable performances came from Olivia Thompson as Alice Fitzwarren, who is developing well as a performer, and Chris Robson as King Rat who was first on and attracted boos from the start. I also enjoyed Phil Wilson’s portrayal of Alderman Fitzwarren. In a break from the norm the part of Dick Whittington was played by David Cameron and he managed this well having a good rapport with the audience. His cat, Sam, was nicely performed by Ellie Baines. Apart from a few ad libs the real comedy was provided by Ian Thompson as Sarah the Cook (a different costume and wig for every entrance), Peta Kilbane as Captain Cockle and Rosie Thompson as Bosun Butch. Amy Smith kept everything running smoothly as a likeable Fairy Beau Bells.
Singing and dance routines were excellent and it was a pleasure to be entertained at the Floral Hall which is now under new management with, hopefully, a secure future.
