A colourful and lively pantomime with a great script, well cast and directed by Ann Ramm, written and musically directed by Lee Redwood. There are also some good company numbers and the choreographer Lucy Kelleher has worked well with the company's dancing and movements.
The story of Dick Whittington is a well known fairy tale which sees Dick heading to London to find his fame and fortune with the aid of his cat Tom. Emma Hardy takes the role of Dick and is very good in the part. She sings well, plays the guitar and works well with Amelia Shipton playing Alice Fitzwarren. Both girls are very convincing and are talented and stand out in their roles.
Martin Pitman plays King Rat and is suitably ‘bad & evil’, getting the audience booing in all the right places. Debra Crowton is a lovely Fairy Bowbells. Daisy Crowton is Tommy the Cat and although she didn’t talk she sang very nicely.
I really liked Lee Redwood playing Idle Jack, bringing energy and pace to the production and getting lots of laughs. He also worked very well with Alan Whitty as the panto dame, Sarah the Cook, and they had some great lines between them.
Alan O’Sullivan, who played Captain Filibuster, along with his trusty side kick Lucy Kelleher as Bagabones, also added comedy to the show, and David Luker is a very grand Sultan of Morocco.
The adult and children’s chorus was well rehearsed, the costumes were very nice, and the simple sets worked well. Well done.
