It was great to be able to join KATS for their production of Dick Whittington their first since the pandemic and I was made to feel very welcome by the front of house team. This was an excellent production and had everything necessary for a traditional pantomime with jokes and audience participation.
There was some very good casting and the director had developed the chemistry between the actors so that they were very natural together. The principal boy and girl had good chemistry and worked well together. The dame gave a super performance with bags of energy, really looking the part and wearing his frocks with style. King Rat, the baddie was deliciously evil with excellent stage presence and he engaged brilliantly with the audience, ensuring that they booed his malicious actions and dialogue. The principals sang their solos confidently with good entries, timing, dynamics and projection. There were some excellent singers in the group, and they blended well together. I was also very impressed by the ensemble who gave strong support to the cast with good singing and well blended harmonies, particularly in the acapella sea shanty with Cap ‘n Hand. All the cast moved well on stage and delivered the dances with good timing and great enthusiasm.
The set had been very well designed with some excellent painted drops and set pieces and very effective lighting. The drops for Old London Town and the Mayors drawing room were particularly effective and really added to the authenticity and atmosphere.
Congratulations on your production.
