In my final Pantomime of the season I once again had the opportunity to see another production of Dick Whittington, albeit an entirely different interpretation and once again a different script written by Chris Brearley and Paul Bennett. With exceptional scenery, lighting effects and pyrotechnics it made this a very colourful pantomime.
Pantomime is of course all about children, and there was an abundence of tiny tots, some a little older, and then we had a team a little older still. All the characters were adults and went about the business of creating laughter and giving their audience lots of 'Oh Yes They Did' and Oh No they Didn't' really well.
Idle Jack. (Karen Parkin) and Sarah the Cook, (Calum Davidson) worked hard and made good foils for each other. Fairy Bow-Bells, (Lara Pollard) and the King Rat, (Andrew MacDonald) had the audience on their side throughout with very clear diction from both, and a superb King Rat costume. Dick Whittington and Alice Fitzwarren, (Karen Rice, Alice Madgewick) complimented each other. Good support from Tommy the Cat, (Sophie Irving) and a Sultan of Morroco, (Mark Verity) who thought he was Elvis Presley!
Lots of colourful costumes and as always, a lovely finale with brilliant lighting all around the stage and the cast singing as they always do at the end 'The Sunshine of your Smile'
The cast certainly enjoyed themselves and it was greatly appreciated by the audience too, along with a good sprinkling of humour, thank you for an excellent evening's entertainment.
