Curtain Up is a comedy play set in the early 2000’s about the Gerrysthorpe Amdram society putting on a play. Despite having a cast, they look like they are in trouble as the village hall where they rehearse and perform is going to be demolished to make way for a new Waitrose. To get around this, the performance must be brought forwards and in the process mayhem follows. Although the plot was somewhat predictable, there was plenty of opportunity for the cast to bring out humour.

It had been well cast, with all the actors comfortable in their roles and giving good performances under Kim’s direction. The acting space was well used with no blocking and there was a lot of attention given to ensuring that the dialogue was clear with good contrasts between the actors and their ‘play characters’. The actors worked well together each developing their characters and delivering their lines with just the right amount of emphasis and comic timing.
