This delightful production featured a talented, committed and well-disciplined cast in a bubbly production of this popular show. The energy and drive more than overcame the cheesy dialogue and made this a delightful evening of theatre.
Clever choreography was suited to the different abilities of your dancers – some of whom were clearly expert. The skilful setting of the girls’ arrival in Deadrock avoided showing how many more women there were than men – in fact, the choreography throughout balanced the numbers most satisfactorily. Having the older ladies as dressers and helpers worked very well. There was estimable work on comic timing and reactions to all the jokes throughout. The chorus work was excellent, both when being a uniform group of Follies girls and when being individuals, especially in ‘I Got Rhythm’, where the feel of different people doing their own thing made for a super lively atmosphere. The one-liners throughout were crisp, clear and meaningful: it is sometimes harder to make a single interjection work than a chunk of dialogue! The dancing had lots of lovely energy, and I commend those who remembered to keep eyelines high, faces alive and smiles broad throughout – the more you look as if it’s fun, the more the audience enjoys it.
