This the second time that P & P productions have put on a Christmas show instead of their famous Autumn Concert

This show had all the right ingredients for an excellent show, a great selection of Christmas related songs, an enthusiastic cast, top class performances from the soloist, excellent singing throughout, lovely dancers and cute children.

I was very impressed with Adam Samways excellent rendition of “What’s this” from “The Nightmare before Christmas”. Also Paul Simpkin and Cripin Goodhall made an excellent job of “Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth”  The P & P Singers, somewhat reduced in their numbers after changes during the summer, showed that they were not down and out by singing three faultless numbers, the last one “ O Holy night “ was without a doubt the highlight of the evening.

Sadly, because of technical problems, I came out of the theatre feeling disappointed.  From the opening number the sound engineer never seem to get it right. I noticed the MD franticly signalling to get the piano switched on and suddenly the piano drown everything for a few seconds.  I lost count of the number of times that the sound cues were late or missed and several times the soloists could not be heard, even when the microphones were working.  The small band made an excellent sound but, generally they were far too loud throughout the whole show. The Barrington is only a small theatre. I also have to say that in places the show did not flow too well, with long breaks between some of the musical numbers, where there seemed to be congestion problems getting the cast on and off the stage.

Once again the hard working cast, did a great job, but were let down by technical problems
