‘Confusions’ by Alan Ayckbourn was told by way of 5 plays beginning with ‘Mother Figure’ with Lucy Compton (Amy McKenzie), Rosemary Oates (Sue Baker) and Terry Oates (Alan Perks). Following this we saw ‘Drinking Companion’ with Harry Compton (Steve Brunell), Paula (Sally Ibbertson), Waiter (Arron Raw) and Bernice (Laura Stothard). This followed with ‘Between Mouthfuls’ with Waiter (Arron Raw), Donald Pearce (Mick McNeill), Emma Pearce (Sue Baker), Martin Chalmers (Nathan Partington) and Polly Chalmers (Amy McKenzie).
Following the interval we were the treated to ‘Gosforth’s Fěte’ with Millie Carter (Sally Ibbertson), Councillor Mrs Pearce (Sue Baker), Gordon Gosforth (Nathan Partington), Rev John Braithwaite (Alan Perks) and Stewart Stokes (Arron Raw) and ended with ‘A Talk In The Park’ with Arthur (Mick McNeill), Beryl (Laura Stothard), Charles (Steve Brunell), Doreen (Sue Baker) and Ernest (Arron Raw). As is clear this play as a whole brought together a talented group of 9 actors playing 2 or sometimes 3 parts in each playlet and providing such great characterisations. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the plays. There was not one weak link and I particularly enjoyed the moment Councillor Mrs Pearce returned to the stage covered in mud with straw in her hair looking very bedraggled. It was an hilarious and ‘electrifying’ moment.
Congratulations must go to the Director, Nick Grafton in bringing this play to the stage. I feel he thoroughly understood this play and must be so proud to have worked with such a talented group. Thank you so much Broughton for an excellent evening and I look forward to many more.
