I can’t believe that it was only just over 2 months since I had watched the last KYDZ production – yet here I am again watching another great evening’s entertainment by this talented group.  Once again, their “Concert 2019 with a short play” was produced, directed and performed by a dedicated team of people.  They really do go from strength to strength with every production – once again tackling “current” issues that we come across in the course of our life – and once again they turned these issues into an impressive production.

This show was a story of 2 halves – Act 1 was the “October Concert 2019” which gave all their members, both new and experienced, a chance to shine.  And shine they did!  It was jam packed with non stop musical numbers – some very familiar, some not so familiar (to me!), but they were all performed with confidence and energy.  Everyone gave 100%.

The second half was a play called “We Are The Weird Ones” which explored issues significant in the lives of young people.  This play gave the audience insight into issues that people have to deal with each and every day – a “gay” and “transgender” storyline which was delivered with such sensitivity.  Congratulations to its writer – Georgia Knights for having the wherewithal to write the piece.

There were very clever musical numbers woven into the play – which really helped to bring out the storyline.

In both the first and second half there was a great selection of musical numbers (including “pop” and musical theatre), which were extremely well chosen.  Some of the words were very cleverly rewritten to fit the storyline of the play.

Once again, the performers used backing tracks –and they were faultless in their performance.  I arrived early to the performance and from where I sat at the back of the church I could hear their vocal warm up - and they really made an impressive sound both on and off stage!

With great “technical” support on sound and simple lighting it was a great evening’s entertainment.  The audience were clapping along and tapping their feet!

It was a pleasure that along with Les Smith, NODA NE Councillor we were able to present numerous long service certificates and awards to this dedicated team of youngsters.

KYDZ is a “team” company – with an array of leaders, crew, front of house, admin and chaperones – without whom none of this would happen.  Long may your support and enthusiasm continue.
