The society’s Junior and Youth members were given the stage for their annual production which consisted of two versions of the classic Cinderella story.
The first, written by Kaye Umansky and well performed by the Juniors, was done in a typical panto style and was very funny. It also included a few songs which were nicely sung unaccompanied. The young cast showed excellent ability and there was some super timing which brought some good laughter from the audience.
Cinderella Wore Combat Boots, written by Jerry Chase, was set in America and was the Youth section’s opportunity to shine. It is an over the top non-singing panto with eccentric costumes and dialogue and, again, was a really enjoyable play, well performed.
In both plays, simple sets were well used on the small stage.
The audience which, sadly, was not as large as it should have been, was fully prepared to join in the fun of both plays and the Directors, and the society as a whole, deserve great credit for giving youngsters the chance to perform and learn new skills. I saw a lot of potential in the performers and hopefully they will stay with the society to ensure it’s long term future.
