This was lots of fun as panto should be, but this Cinderella had a twist as it was Dandini (disguised with a moustache!) who was in love with the Prince and the happy ending was for the two couples – the Prince and Dandini (played as a boy by a girl and turning out to be a girl – confusing or what!?) and Cinderella ending up with Buttons who had always adored her. All great fun!
And so to the cast – Amy Baker was the Fairy Godmother, always on hand to help good overcome evil and Dulcea Mayhew was a delightful Cinderella, both bringing their characters to life. Jane Jenkinson gave us a super Dandini (and the moustache stayed in place until it had to come off!). Buttons was played by Macauley Parker who gave all that the part demanded.
The Ugly Sisters who are always so horrid to Cinderella comprised Douglas Dalziel as Diana (if there was a competition for Best Dame, I’m pretty sure Douglas would win it!) and Sean Langford as Rhea – they acted so well together and both were pretty glamorous in an over the top way – just right.
Adam Jebbitt played Prince Charming – very nice performance with his father King Charming played by Mark Gurney who gave an excellent rendition of his song.
Emma Pierssenne was the Baroness – really evil to poor Cinderella with Andy Bennett as Baron Hardunby, who really was hard done by! Both gave the characters just what was needed.
The dancing competition at the Ball was great with Mark Davidson as Bruno Tortalini and Steffi Huxley as Darcy Bushelter – lovely performances. These two will still be in my mind when I watch the next series of Strictly! We even had the voice of Brucie, courtesy Grant Martins.
Lots of lively singing and dancing from the ensemble and everyone was dressed very well indeed by the costume team. Musical Director Pat White led the band – an excellent sound. Scenery was ideal, designed and constructed by Les Worsfold and team and congratulations to all those working backstage in all the capacities that make a production successful.
Thanks to Director Geoff Baker, MD Pat White and all involved, this was another successful production for The Haven Players.
